Carbon Copy invites the viewer to sit on the very source of the problem – Carbon emissions. At the centre of the container is a half tonne Boeing 747 seat. It cast from the equivalent half tonne of carbon that was produced by the exhibitors when flying to the exhibition. It makes the carbon, which is normally invisibly bound up in carbon dioxide, solid and very present in the white interior of the container. The infinitely reflecting mirrors on opposite walls multiply the seat to an uncountable number – the uncountable number reflecting the intangible scale of the problem of spriraling carbon emissions. The installation highlights the inherent conflict in an international exhibition on the environment.
